Main Providers & Costs
Telcel
Largest provider in Mexico
Prepaid packages for tourists available
Example: 3 GB data + national calls for approx. 200–250 MXN (~10–12 €)
Coverage: excellent in cities and tourist areas, weaker in rural regions
AT&T México
Main competitor to Telcel, also widely available
Prepaid packages with data and calls
Example: 2 GB data for approx. 150–200 MXN (~8–10 €)
Coverage: good in cities, patchy in remote areas
Movistar
Cheaper but weaker coverage
Example: 2 GB data for approx. 120–150 MXN (~6–8 €)

Our First Trip to Mexico (April 2022)
In January 2022, we traveled through Mexico for two weeks, having carefully planned our route beforehand. Our journey began with a direct flight from Frankfurt to Cancún. The round-trip flight with Condor, including luggage, cost us 625 € per person. Instead of staying in Cancún right away, we decided to visit the city at the end of our trip and headed straight to Isla Mujeres.
Our trip took us to some of the most beautiful places in Mexico. On Isla Mujeres, we enjoyed the beaches and the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean. In Tulum, we explored cenotes and relaxed by the sea. On Holbox, we found quiet beaches and experienced stunning sunsets. In Cancún, we went snorkeling and took a speedboat ride over the water before heading back to Germany. Mexico impressed us with its nature, culture, and Caribbean vibes, a trip we will remember for a long time.

Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancún, captivates with its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a getaway in the Caribbean.
In addition to the famous Playa Norte, one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico, the island offers numerous highlights: snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, driving a golf cart along the coast, or visiting the colorful old town. For those seeking adventure, there’s the opportunity to explore the underwater museum MUSA or swim with whale sharks (depending on the season).
In this section, we’ll show you:
- The best way to get to Isla Mujeres
- Our recommendations for accommodations
- The best restaurants & beach bars
- Dream beaches you shouldn’t miss
- Exciting activities on the island
Join us on our journey and discover the most beautiful corners of Isla Mujeres!
How to Get from Cancún Airport to Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres is easily accessible from Cancún and is the perfect destination for a relaxing Caribbean getaway. From Cancún Airport, there are two options to get to the ferry terminal, Puerto Juarez:
- The cheaper option: Take the red ADO bus, which will get you to the port in about 30 minutes.
- The more convenient, but pricier option: Take a taxi directly to the ferry, ideal after a long journey.
We opted for the easy taxi ride to get to the island faster. From Puerto Juarez, the ferry takes just 30 minutes to reach Isla Mujeres. A round-trip ticket costs about 23 € per person.
Ferry Times Puerto Juarez – Isla Mujeres: 5:30 AM – 11:00 PM (every 30 minutes)
Tip:
Book your taxi directly at the official taxi counter at the airport to avoid inflated prices. If you want to save some money, connect with other travelers in the line, taxis are often shared among multiple people.
Get ready to enjoy Isla Mujeres, an island full of stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and Caribbean vibes.

Playa Centro
Location: Right next to Playa Norte, near the town center.
Our Impression: Playa Centro is livelier than Playa Norte but still a beautiful spot for swimming and sunbathing. Here, you’ll find various beach clubs, loungers, and water sports opportunities. It’s especially worth a visit at sunset, as the colors of the sky beautifully reflect in the water.

Playa Garrafón
Location: In the south of the island, near Garrafón National Park.

The Best Beaches in Cancún
Playa Delfines

Playa Delfines is located in the Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera) of Cancún and is one of the most famous and picturesque beaches in the city.
Our Impression:
This expansive, public beach stands out with its deep blue, crystal-clear water and fine white sand. Since there are no large hotels directly on the beach, it often feels less crowded compared to other beaches in the Hotel Zone. The waves are often strong, making it more suitable for surfing or experienced swimmers. A highlight is the famous “Cancún” sign, which is perfect for a memorable photo!
Getting There:
Easily accessible by bus or taxi, as it is directly along the main road of the Hotel Zone. Parking is also available.
Playa Marlin
Location:
Playa Marlin is also located in the Hotel Zone, near shopping centers like La Isla Shopping Village.
Our Impression:
A beautiful, expansive sandy beach with turquoise waters and usually strong waves. The beach is less crowded compared to other beaches in Cancún because there are fewer beach clubs. It’s ideal for those looking for a relaxing day by the sea. There are public access points and showers, but limited shade – so don’t forget your sunscreen!
Getting There:
Easily accessible by bus or taxi. The public access is near the Kukulcán Plaza shopping center.
Tip: Playa Delfines is perfect for spectacular views and waves, while Playa Marlin offers a quieter atmosphere and is easily accessible. Both beaches are among the most beautiful in Cancún!
Food in Cancún
We only ate at Hotel NYX Cancún, so we can’t recommend any restaurants outside the hotel. The hotel offered a wide selection of food, a delicious breakfast buffet, and several restaurants.
In the Hotel Zone, there are many restaurants offering seafood, tacos, and international dishes, while the city center is home to more authentic Mexican cuisine.
