ToggleOur Trip to Zakynthos
In the summer of 2022, we traveled to Zakynthos – a green oasis in the Ionian Sea. After exploring Santorini in 2021 with its charming architecture and distinctive Greek flair, we were longing for an island with lush nature and beautiful beaches this time.
Our journey began with a direct flight from Frankfurt to Zakynthos. For the round-trip flight with Condor, including luggage, we paid €400 per person. The island’s capital, Zakynthos Town, welcomed us with Mediterranean charm, while the coastline impressed us with its picturesque coves and crystal-clear waters. A special highlight: Zakynthos is one of the most important nesting sites for the endangered Caretta Caretta sea turtle.
This trip showed us a different, greener side of Greece – a perfect combination of breathtaking nature, relaxed island vibes, and unforgettable beach experiences.
In addition to the world-famous beaches like Navagio Bay (Smuggler’s Cove) and the stunning Porto Limnionas, Zakynthos offers numerous opportunities to explore nature. Whether snorkeling in the Blue Caves, discovering hidden coves, or observing the endangered Caretta Caretta turtles – the island captivates with its diversity. Zakynthos Town invites you to linger with its charming streets, cozy taverns, and vibrant atmosphere.

Cost: Approx. €400 per person (including luggage)
Duration: Approx. 2.5 hours (direct flight)
Our journey to Zakynthos began with a direct flight from Frankfurt with Condor. After about two and a half hours, we arrived on the island and were immediately greeted with a breathtaking view of the deep blue Ionian Sea and the lush landscape of Zakynthos during our descent.
Upon landing, we picked up our rental car at the airport – the best way to explore the island at our own pace. From there, we made our way to our accommodation, looking forward to a week full of picturesque bays, stunning beaches, and unforgettable experiences on this beautiful Greek island.
Getting Around Zakynthos
- Car
- Scooter
- Quad
Since the island is relatively large, it’s recommended to rent a mode of transportation to explore Zakynthos easily.
We rented a car for a week, as it allows for faster and more comfortable travel compared to a quad or scooter.
For the week, we paid 260 Euros, including insurance.
Tip: We recommend booking a car in advance and picking it up directly at the airport, where you can also return it.
