Achensee

Tyrol's largest lake is a paradise for nature lovers: crystal-clear, turquoise water, dense hiking and cycling paths along the shore, and in winter an eldorado for skiers, cross-country skiers and ice skaters. The picturesque villages around the lake invite you to linger over a meal with a lake view.

Getting to Achensee

By car from Frankfurt via the A3 and A8 to Tyrol, around 500 kilometers and roughly 5.5 hours of driving. By train it's the ICE to Munich, then a regional train to Jenbach, and from there a bus or the nostalgic Achensee cog railway straight to the lake, about 6 to 7 hours total. If you fly, you land in Innsbruck (about 1 hour from Frankfurt) and then it's another roughly 45 minutes to the shore.
