Thailand had me completely under its spell from my very first visit, and I've kept coming back ever since. No other country in Southeast Asia combines culture, nature and beach quite so effortlessly.
From Bangkok's golden temples to the green mountains of the north to the turquoise bays of the Andaman Sea: Thailand suits every kind of traveler, whether you're on a backpacker budget or a luxury escape.

Bangkok, Thailand's vibrant capital, is a city of contrasts, where glittering skyscrapers meet magnificent temples, traditional street kitchens meet luxurious rooftop bars, and frantic bustle hides tucked-away oases of calm. Whether you wander the lively streets of Chinatown, visit the impressive Grand Palace or take in the colorful scene at the floating markets, Bangkok has something for everyone. The city captivates with a unique mix of culture, history, culinary highlights and modern city life.

Ko Samui, Thailand's second-largest island, is a true paradise with palm-fringed beaches, turquoise water and a relaxed atmosphere that puts you in vacation mode instantly. Beyond picturesque beaches like Chaweng and Lamai, Ko Samui also has plenty to offer culturally, including the impressive Big Buddha and several temple complexes. Whether you want to relax at a luxury resort or discover hidden waterfalls and hiking trails, Ko Samui has something for everyone.

Ko Phangan is a tropical jewel in the Gulf of Thailand, known for its unique mix of lively nightlife and quiet retreats. Famous for the legendary Full Moon Party, the island has far more to offer than pulsing celebrations. Here you'll find paradise beaches, dense jungle trails and charming villages that invite you to slow right down. Whether you're after adventure, relaxation or a bit of both, Ko Phangan is the perfect place to let your soul breathe.

Ko Tao, also known as "Turtle Island," is a small paradise in the Gulf of Thailand, famous for its impressive underwater world, relaxed atmosphere and stunning beaches. Here you'll find the perfect mix of adventure and calm. The island is especially popular with divers and snorkelers and counts among the best places in the world to explore the fascinating underwater world. On land, too, Ko Tao has plenty to offer: hidden bays, spectacular viewpoints and cozy little villages.

Krabi, on Thailand's southwest coast, is a true paradise for nature lovers and adventurers. With dramatic limestone cliffs, idyllic beaches and crystal-clear water, the region offers a perfect blend of relaxation and exciting experiences. Krabi is especially known for its stunning islands like Railay Beach, Koh Phi Phi and Hong Island, which impress with breathtaking beaches and spectacular viewpoints. But there's plenty to discover on land too, from hot springs to emerald lagoons to temples with stunning panoramic views.

Koh Phi Phi, one of Thailand's best-known island groups, is a paradise for beach lovers, divers and adventurers. The island captivates with impressive limestone cliffs, turquoise water and a lively atmosphere. Maya Bay is especially famous, having gained worldwide recognition through the film "The Beach." But Koh Phi Phi has much more to offer, from hidden coves to spectacular viewpoints to a pulsing nightlife.

Phuket, Thailand's largest island, sits in the Andaman Sea and impresses with striking variety. Here you'll find dreamy beaches, lush rainforest and spectacular limestone formations, a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. Phuket is especially popular for its lively west coast, with beaches like Patong, Karon and Kata inviting you to unwind with white sand and turquoise water. But there's plenty to discover away from the coast too: green hills, cultural sights and local markets.
Something for every budget: hostels from €8–15 a night, boutique hotels from €40–80, luxury resorts from €150. On the islands it's worth spending a bit more to stay right on the beach.
Street food is as much a part of Thailand as the temples are of the skyline. Pad Thai, mango sticky rice, som tam – for €1–3 from a wok. Don't drink tap water, always buy bottled water.
