Flying a Drone in Seychelles

Last updated: August 2026 · Rules can change at short notice, please check the official source before you travel

Flying a drone in the Seychelles is allowed, but tied to a free advance registration. Sort out the paperwork early, and you can capture the islands from above without trouble at customs or on the ground.

Registration requirement

Every drone over 200 grams must be registered free of charge with the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) before your trip. The form is available on the SCAA website, and processing usually takes 3-5 business days. Apply at least two weeks before departure so the confirmation arrives in time.

Bringing your drone through customs

Actively declare your drone at customs. Officials are used to drones given the high number of tourists and often ask for the registration confirmation. Without it, the drone may be temporarily held.

Flight rules

Flights are allowed up to a maximum altitude of 120 metres, strictly within visual line of sight, and daylight hours only. Keep sufficient distance from people, buildings and vehicles. Night flights are not permitted.

No-fly zones around airports

Generous no-fly zones of several kilometres apply around the international airports on Mahé and Praslin, as well as near helipads. On Praslin this also covers popular spots like Anse Volbert and the Vallée de Mai. La Digue has no airport, but restrictions apply near the helipad at La Passe.

Resort and conservation rules

Many hotels and resorts have their own rules for drone flights on their grounds, as do nature reserves and marine parks. It's always worth a quick check with reception or park staff before takeoff.

Penalties for violations

Operating an unregistered drone can result in fines of up to SCR 50,000 (around USD 3,700), confiscation of the equipment, or further legal action.

My recommendation

Complete the registration online well in advance, carry the confirmation both as a PDF and printout, and double-check with your accommodation or guide on arrival about exactly where flying is allowed. With that preparation, relaxed aerial shots of the Seychelles are well within reach.
