Praslin

Praslin, the second-largest island of the Seychelles, delights with a relaxed atmosphere, paradise-like beaches and unique nature. It's home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, including Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette, which with their fine sand and turquoise water could come straight out of a picture book. A highlight is the Vallée de Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to the legendary Coco de Mer palm, with dense palm forests, exotic birds and the gentle rustle of leaves.

Getting to Praslin

We took the Cat Cocos ferry from Mahé to Praslin, about an hour crossing open water with beautiful views of the surrounding islands (the crossing can get a bit rough if there's swell). A driver from our accommodation was already waiting at the harbor. We had a rental car for two to three days (about €40/day, well-maintained, lightly trafficked roads); alternatively there are also buses here with day or multi-day tickets, available at the bus station or in small supermarkets.

Where We Stayed on Praslin

Didi's Dream Apartments

Quietly located, just a two-minute walk from the beach, with supermarkets and a bus stop close by. Very friendly, helpful hosts, a well-equipped apartment with a large balcony and lovely view, plus generous, secured parking.

A nice bonus: the hosts also run another property with a restaurant right on Anse Lazio, where we got a 10% discount, a welcome drink and fresh coconuts.

Great location, good facilities, warm hosts, perfect for anyone looking for comfortable accommodation near the beach. Only small downside: the WiFi doesn't work optimally everywhere in the apartment.

The Best Beaches on Praslin

Anse Lazio

One of the most beautiful beaches in the Seychelles, on the northwest coast. Fine white sand, turquoise water, impressive granite rocks: a true postcard setting. Usually calm water, good for swimming, though it can get a bit more wavy depending on the season. Nearby there are restaurants with Creole food and fresh juices, plus shady spots under takamaka trees.

A paradise for anyone looking for a dream beach with an impressive natural backdrop, a must for any visit to Praslin.

Anse Lazio

Anse Georgette

One of the more hidden beaches on the island, officially part of the Constance Lémuria Resort but also accessible to outside visitors (registration at the hotel required in advance). Powder-soft white sand, crystal-clear water, granite rocks lined with palm trees, less frequented than other beaches and therefore often has a quiet, idyllic atmosphere. Alternatively reachable via a roughly one-hour hike through lush vegetation with great views of the coast.

One of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches on Praslin: if you're willing to put in a bit of effort to get there, you're rewarded with a paradise-like spot.

Anse Georgette

Cote D'Or Beach

A long, fine-sand beach on the northeast coast, gently sloping turquoise water, ideal for swimming and walking. Its proximity to accommodations, restaurants and small shops makes it especially popular, and it's noticeably quieter in the morning than in the afternoon.

Ideal for anyone looking for a beautiful beach with good infrastructure, a great mix of relaxation and variety.

The Best Activities on Praslin

Fond Ferdinand

A less frequented, cheaper alternative to the well-known Vallée de Mai, in the southeast of the island. Entry including a guided tour costs about €18. During the roughly two-hour tour we got comprehensive information about the island's unique flora and fauna, especially the endemic Coco de Mer palm, before climbing numerous steps to reach an impressive viewpoint with a panoramic view over Praslin.

An informative tour plus a spectacular view, and compared to the Vallée de Mai, easier on the budget too.

Fond Ferdinand

Curieuse Island

Only reachable by boat, known for free-roaming Aldabra giant tortoises and impressive mangrove landscapes. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by numerous tortoises, which we got to observe and feed up close, followed by a relaxed walk through the mangrove forests and a group lunch together in an open hut.

Honestly, the beach at our destination didn't quite win us over, there are definitely nicer swimming spots in the Seychelles.

A great destination for nature lovers, mainly because of the tortoises and the varied landscape. But if you're expecting a dream beach, adjust your expectations.

Curieuse Island

Snorkeling at Île St. Pierre

Two snorkeling stops during our boat tour, one of them at the idyllic, uninhabited Île St. Pierre with impressive granite rocks and crystal-clear water. Colorful fish like parrotfish and emperor fish, plus vibrant coral formations.

An absolute highlight for anyone wanting to explore the underwater world of the Seychelles.

Virgin Coconut Oil Factory

In Grand Anse, a look into the production of cold-pressed coconut oil from fresh organic coconuts. On-site you can also sample and buy natural soaps, body scrubs, jams and other coconut products. An interesting stop for anyone interested in local products.
