Santorini

In August 2021 we visited Santorini and were amazed by the unique architecture and the Greek atmosphere. The island belongs to the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea and its capital Fira offers a breathtaking view of the caldera.

We opted for a direct flight from Frankfurt to Santorini with the airline "Lufthansa" and paid €381 per person including luggage for the return flight.

Imerovigli:

In Imerovigli is the Skaros Rock, a huge volcanic rock.

Skaros was the capital of Santorini until the 18th century.

If you look closely, you can see some remains of Skaros Fortress.

Skaros Rock is the perfect place to watch the sunset. It is best to wear good shoes!

Fair:

Fira is the capital of the Greek island of Santorini and is located on the west coast of the island.

I recommend you to take a leisurely stroll through the city and enjoy the atmosphere. There are many great shops where you can browse and buy a souvenir or two. And if you fancy a sweet refreshment, you should definitely try a delicious ice cream! Another great way to end the day is to stop off at one of the many bars and enjoy the beautiful view of the sea and the surrounding islands.

Oia is a picturesque village on the Greek island of Santorini, known for its spectacular sunsets and distinctive architecture. It is located in the northern part of the island and offers stunning views of the Aegean Sea. The whitewashed houses with the blue domes and doors and the narrow streets and stairs are typical of Cycladic architecture and attract thousands of tourists every year. Oia is also known for its numerous restaurants, cafes and art galleries.

Cons: nothing

Conclusion: We can warmly recommend the Gabbiano Traditional Cave Houses.

As mentioned at the beginning, I would recommend booking a vacation rental with an infinity pool in Oia.

Essen in Oia

Ammoudi:

A beautiful little bay below Oia. There are restaurants and it serves as a starting point for boat trips. A walk there is worthwhile, the way back is just very strenuous.

Morning walk through Oia☀️:

To avoid the tourist rush in Oia, I recommend an early morning walk through the picturesque village. At 7am I started exploring with my camera in hand and was able to enjoy Oia without the hustle and bustle of the crowds. A few delightful little cafes and shops were already open and I had a completely different sense of the calm and emptiness of the place.

Sunset Oia

The typical sunset locations in Oia are overrated, far too crowded.

We recommend a comfortable seat in a bar, restaurant or accommodation to enjoy the sunset.
