Austria

We spent a wonderful winter holiday in Austria in 2022 and visited great places such as the picturesque Lake Aachen, idyllic Finkenberg and cozy Brand near Bludenz.

Achensee

The Achensee is a beautiful lake in Austria and is located in Tyrol. It is the region's largest lake and is known for its clear, turquoise water. The lake is surrounded by mountains and offers numerous opportunities for activities such as hiking, skiing, cross-country skiing and ice skating. There are also some picturesque villages on the shore of the lake where you can have a leisurely meal or stroll.

Beautiful tunnels – Tunnelweg Runde from Pertisau

I would rate the hiking route as moderately challenging. We parked in the lot next to a ski hire/sports shop which only cost a few euros. The way was well signposted. The highlight of the hike for us was the viewpoint in the pictures below.

Fire near Bludenz

Brand is a municipality in the southwest of the Austrian Vorarlberg in the district of Bludenz. The place is in the so-called Brandnertal, a beautiful high mountain valley in the Eastern Alps. Located at 1,037 meters above sea level on the Alvier, the area around Brand is characterized by dense forests and alpine landscapes.

Accommodation on fire

Walliser Hof

Location: The location is excellent with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Cost: 270€ per night

Value for money: ok

Pros: The hotel offers stunning mountain views and has top-notch room amenities. The hotel has a pleasant atmosphere and the staff is courteous.

Negative: The breakfast left us with an unsatisfactory impression and no information was provided regarding the sauna in the room. Also there were no indications in the room or during check-in where the sauna area and the like were located. Overall, we were missing the information at check-in and in the room.

sledging

Since the ski season hadn't started when we were there, we took the opportunity to walk up the mountain near the hotel and go sledding. The starting point was only about a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
